Environmental Protection Agency Running More Tests on Chinese Drywall
May 26, 2009

On Thursday, May 21, 2009, Senators and federal regulators met in an effort to resolve issues in regards to Chinese drywall. Nearly 50,000 homes in Florida are possibly affected by the drywall that was purchased from China during a time when building materials were in short supply. Between the Housing boom and the multiple hurricanes that hit Florida during the years of 2004 and 2007, finding local suppliers was nearly impossible. A rotten-egg odor, corroding wiring and respiratory problems seem to be the main complaints of homeowners whose homes were built using drywall from China.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is conducting more studies and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is in talks with China to find where the infected drywall originated from.

The CPSC will also be setting up a website in the near future to give homeowners a place to go to check on updates and to have any questions answered, according to Lori Saltzman, the division director of Health Services for Consumer Product Safety Commission.
