Many struggling homeowners have been turned down when applying for the Obama Administrations Making Home Affordable Program due to typos, bank employee errors and lost faxes. This problem has been acknowledged by the Treasury Department and mortgage giant, Freddie Mac has begun the Second Look Program. Second Look is designed to determine the scale of lenders that are not following the Making Home Affordable Program.
Currently Freddie Mac has reviewed nearly 1,000 files per week, since the start of the program; no reliable figures have been released, however with every error that has been reported employees of Freddie Mac have worked with the lender to correct the problem. In addition to Second Look, the Obama Administration has plans to place tough penalties on lenders who wrongly deny applicants into the program. Making home affordable moved forward slowly in the beginning, but the Treasury announced last week that nearly 500,000 homeowners are now enlisted in the program.
