The quest for a solution to the Chinese Drywall problem Continues
October 23, 2009

Last Friday, U.S. Sen Bill Nelson mailed a letter to the Florida House and Senate leaders requesting that they start an investigation to determine whether federal funds that have not yet been used could be earmarked for homeowners that are suffering the repercussions of Chinese Drywall. Nelson suggested that Florida consider a $5 million program redirecting Community Development Block Grants from the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the homeowners that have been affected by the drywall.

Nelson states in the letter, “Defective Chinese drywall is ruining the health and lives of countless Floridians, I urge you to work with the Florida Governor’s office and relevant state agencies to determine, as soon as possible, if Florida has remaining disaster CDBG or other funds available to provide comparable help for our citizens.”

If the block money is not available, Nelson may have to look to Florida Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for help.
